Dr Small has a small team of staff who understand the often complex requirements of cardiac patients and are able to assist you with bookings and cardiac tests such as echocardiograms, exercise stress tests, and 24hour ECG monitoring.

Read our Covid-19 information for patients

By the very nature of the Covid 19 virus the majority of Cardiology patients are deemed to be high risk and vulnerable. As such Dr Andrew Small encourages all his patients to be fully vaccinated.

We understand that vaccination is a personal choice. We will treat all vaccinated and unvaccinated patients equally and fairly. You will be expected to wear a mask and take extra precautions such as using the alcohol hand sanitiser, social distancing, answering Covid questions truthfully and using the QR check in on entry to the premises.

Some vaccinated patients can be asymptomatic and cardiac unvaccinated patients are at greater risk of developing severe Covid symptoms. Please consider if visiting the medical practice is in your best interest. Telehealth for consultations is available.

Exercise Stress Tests (EST) and Exercise Stress Echos (ESE) are deemed high-risk tests in terms of potential Covid exposure. Most patients are unable to tolerate a mask whilst exercising on the treadmill. By virtue of increasing your rate of breathing and not wearing a mask you can transmit the virus more easily. The Sonographer and Dr Small will be wearing full protective apparel during these procedures. However to help ensure the safety of the Doctor and his staff, both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients will be required to provide proof of a negative Covid test within the 48hrs prior to the test. We can undertake a Rapid Antigen Test within the rooms on the day, prior to your EST or ESE if this is easier for you. There is a small cost involved which unfortunately you can not claim against Medicare. .

All other Cardiac tests do not require a negative Covid test at this stage.

All our current patient care and testing procedures have been reviewed following a Covid risk assessment. This risk assessment is undertaken fortnightly or as directions change from Queensland Health, The Wesley Hospital or the Sandford Jackson Building and can subsequently change at short notice. It is available in the rooms should you wish to peruse it. It is followed with the intention of keeping our patients and staff as safe as possible. We appreciate your support in adhering to these requests and our Covid Policy and apologise that there is some inconvenience to patients during this time.
